The American, who has been out of work since February 2023 after being sacked by Leeds, will now take charge of the Canada men's national team. His first major assignment as Canada boss will be at the Copa America 2024 where the nation are set to make their debut.

On Monday, Canada Soccer's CEO and general secretary, Kevin Blue made announcement of Marsch's arrival as he was heard saying: "I’m about to call Jesse Marsch and confirm that he will the next head coach of our Canadian men’s national team. We’ve been working on getting this done and excited on finally having it ready to go."
Blue then connected with American on a video call where the newly appointed head coach said: "I appreciate so much your trust and belief in me. I assure you I will pay you back at every level. And this team is gonna be something the entire Canadian community is going to be so excited about."

The former US assistant coach was linked with a move to South Korea as the Asian side considered appointing him as their new manager as a replacement for Jurgen Klinsmann. Clubs like Monaco, Leicester City and Birmingham City were also reportedly interested in hiring him.
