Former Everton midfielder Don Hutchison has sent a message to Toffees goalkeeper Jordan Pickford on Twitter after he spoke out about the criticism he has received.
The England number one was called out by many, including his own fans, for failing to prevent Christian Benteke scoring for Crystal Palace in the Merseyside outfit’s 3-1 win against Roy Hodgson’s men at Goodison Park on Saturday, but bounced back with some interesting quotes.
The former Sunderland man said, via BBC Sport: “I think the press and everybody; the punters, look at Gary Neville, they just want to come for England players… Everyone gets stick. Some get a lot more praise than others. That’s part of being an England player, everyone hates you for some reason.”
These quotes were relayed by the Footy Accumulators Twitter account, which then obviously caught the eye of Hutchison, who made 75 appearances in all competitions for Everton according to Transfermarkt, scoring 10 goals and assisting a further two, as he quoted in his reply.
The former Scotland international tweeted: “More like when your playing bad and making mistakes. Our job is to analyse the good and bad form in players. We have all had good/bad spells so we know what is like. Now he has got to show character and not go under…..”
As well as pointing out that it is the job of pundits to analyse players that both are and aren’t performing well, it is the end of his message that Pickford needs to pay particular attention to.

The 25-year-old appears to have been slightly riled by the criticism he has received, and Hutchison is absolutely right that he needs to show character and prove on the pitch he is good enough, rather than getting too caught up in it all and sinking.
Did he really play for us?! No Everton fan has managed to name all of these obscure Toffees players….
His next fixture to prove he has done that comes after the winter break against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on February 23.
